BACKGROUND:
Many customers of CPanel have over the course of over 5 years been looking and waiting for Backup Encryption ability on the server controlled backup processes.
This can be found on the Feature Request here:
features.cpanel.net
Where about 2 years ago a staffer stated:
"We wanted to provide a brief update. We're not planning on this feature at this time. "
Despite following this up with comment on the thread (and taking months for this comment to be even published) there has never been any response from CPanel as to the following:
1) What is the reason that encrypted backup zips is not going to be persued?
2) Seriously, you can already encrypt tar.gz files from the command line at creation and post-creation ( See https://askubuntu.com/questions/95920/encrypt-tar-gz-file-on-create ) why can't this be built into the CPanel Backup System?
The lack of ANY constructive feedback on this topic by CPanel is not heartening.
I would like to reach out here and ask if anyone on CPanel can give a public reason why CPanel doesn't want to even attempt to put in place any backup encryption system for CPanel? Would it be possible to shed some light so we as the paying customers of CPanel's systems can glipse what the roadblock is on this process?
As a side note, readers of this forum who care about having their backups auto-encrypted at creation can also view the Feature Request above ( Backups - encryption of backups (symmetric and asymmetric) ) and vote to promote this request.
Looking forward to some constructive feedback!
Thanks
