Hi,

I am planning to build a new cPanel server on Hetzner. I will be using NVMe SSD Datacenter Edition drives, so naturally i will be getting lesser disk space compared to normal SSD or HDD in same price.

So, i am looking to implement any one of below 2 options.

1.) Purchase and Attach additional HDD drive and use it as backup partition
2.) The server which i am planning to take supports storage box. So purchase storage box at Storage - Hetzner Online GmbH and attach to server. But i am not sure if this configuration is supported by cpanel backups.

Option 2 is cheaper compared to option 1.

I need suggestions on which option is better. Can i choose option 2 and use the setting "Mount Backup Drive as Needed" in cPanel backup configuration.

Currently i use Backblaze on existing server for backups. Is continuing with same setup and deselecting " Retain Backups in the Default Backup Directory " a better option?

I never used Jetbackup, does it have any advantage if i am the only person managing the accounts in server?

Thank you.

Hey there! For option 2, if you can create a user on the storage box that can be connected with over SSH or FTP or sFTP, I'd expect the cPanel backups to work well. You could just configure the FTP or sFTP option in the Additional Destinations area as outlined here:

As far as JetBackup goes, it's a great tool, but I wouldn't worry about that unless there is something you want that isn't available inside the WHM >> Backup Configuration interface.

We would suggest you to take backup on remote Cloud storage services like AWS S3. You have multiple options for storage at much cheaper rates. Have you explored using Cloud storage like S3?

Yes, as i previously mentioned in my first post, i use Backblaze S3 for remote backups.
I am just looking to replace local backups location.
